Radiated energy from the sun is absorbed in the form of light by the photovoltaic cell and basically generates an electrical current.
Solar Panels can be supplied in a solid frame, semi-flexible of flexible.
The output of a panel varies significantly from summer to winter (approx 75% less effcient) and also by latitude and ideally inclined between 65-75 degrees in the UK, facing south.
The efficiency is also affected by shadow, so position the panels, if possible, to limit the effect of shadow.
As a general rule, all panels will require a regulator.
If the wattage of the panel is less than 10% of the amp hour capacity of the battery bank, then a regulator is not required and a Diode is required to stop reverse drain.
Panels can be connected in parallel (12v) or series (24v) to provide higher outputs.
